Marita Basson is an Associate Professor in Urban Planning and Design. Her discipline research interests include governance, regional development and the nexus of those with social sustainability, both in empirical and conceptual approaches. Marita built her academic career on a bi-modal trajectory in urban and regional planning at state and local government level, and a leadership role in an alternative education context. Her research in the learning and teaching context is focused on online learning and teaching, student engagement and the application of the Montessori Method in an online higher education context. She has published in several high quality journals, contributed to several book chapters and received faculty and university and awards for research and teaching. Marita is also the Associate Dean (Learning, Teaching and Student Success) in the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Sciences.
