Biography

Dr. Hancy Issac is a clinical academic lecturer at the University of southern Queensland, Australia. She completed her doctorate from University of Southern Queensland in improving COPD guideline adherence amongst interdisciplinary medical professionals. She gained her advanced clinical master's degree in Nursing. Her research interest includes clinical simulation, improving quality of health care in the emergency departments and holistic COPD care. She held various clinical educational roles with universities in New Zealand and Australia in the past 15 years post-graduation. Hancy is an active academic researcher within the field of emergency care, nursing education and COPD clinical processes of care. Hancy contributes to emergency nursing research as a professional standards committee member of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia to determine, develop, maintain and promulgate the professional standards relating for emergency nursing across Australasia. Other research topics include CALD students support within universities and international students' clinical preparation prior to clinical placements within Australia. Hancy also contributes as a member of state-wide respiratory network steering committee to drive initiatives to improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of Respiratory services and care in Queensland. Developing world class nursing graduates with exemplary critical thinking, knowledge, and grit to improve patient outcomes is her academic career focus. Engaging with clinical industry partners to improve patient care in emergency departments and meliorate staff working conditions is her research cornerstone. Her PhD research focussed on Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) digital integration of primary care and tertiary care for better implementation and improved adherence with national and international COPD guidelines within Australia. Successful research outcomes will improve patient health related quality of life, sustain pulmonary function, and reduce economic health burden in COPD cohort within Australian health industry. Research experience includes mixed methods systematic literature review, modified Delphi/ E-Delphi method, qualitative research utilising frameworks/thematic analysis, and implementation research to develop better implementation initiatives. Intended impact of her research is to change practice, integrate interdisciplinary care utilising an innovative implementation tool in Emergency departments (E-ICP- Electronic integrated COPD proforma). This research is capable of being piloted in national emergency departments to measure efficacy of E-ICP auditing for ED readmission, retrospective pre and post implementation of COPD care indicators.
