David Steggall is currently completing a Doctor of Creative Arts, investigating clown theory as a social work theory in child protection practice. David is an Accredited Social Worker with 10+ years’ experience in Child Protection, Child and Youth Mental Health and Adult Mental health hospital settings, working with diverse populations in both acute and tertiary care. David has been teaching as a Lecturer in Human Services at USQ since 2017 and has taught advocacy, community development, youth work, case management and placement courses. David was awarded a Regional Arts Development grant of $10,000 for a research project collaborating with Mercy Community Services, Evolve Therapeutic Services (Queensland Health) and Vulcana’s Women’s Circus to write and perform ‘The Dreams of Bricks’ a clown-show re-authoring the Child Protection Practice Tool – The Three Houses. David presented at the 22nd Annual WIP Conference at University of Queensland on AutoEthnoClownoGraphy – Clowning in Child Protection. In 2019 He was successful in a $10,000 grant from Arts Queensland to support his doctoral research with international clown training, attending intensive workshops by Pierre Byland in Switzerland and Eric de Bont in Portugal. David won USQ's 2018 Research Pitch Club Challenge and was a runner up in the National finals.
