Dr Afzalur Rashid is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting (Level C) in the School of Business at the University of Southern Queensland. He has an earned PhD in Accounting from the University of Wollongong. He is also a CPA and holds the CPA License. In the last 28 years he worked in universities in Australia and overseas. The major areas of his research interest are in Carbon Emission and Disclosure, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social and Environmental Disclosures and Earnings Management. His PhD thesis examined 'corporate governance practices in a less developed country'. He presented his research ideas at many prestigious international gatherings, such as American Accounting Association Annual Meeting, British Accounting Association Annual Conference, Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) Conference, Asia Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting (APIRA) Conference. In his academic career, he has also published about 38 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals including papers in top ranked journals, such as Asia Pacific Journal of Management (A), International Review of Financial Analysis (A), Journal of Business Ethics (A) and Managerial Auditing Journal (A). He is the recipient of the School Specific Publication Excellence Award from the University of Southern Queensland in 2015 and 2017. His research on Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility has attracted international attention. He is an experienced Higher Degree Research (HDR) Supervisor and supervised more than ten HDR students (Research Masters, DBA and PhD) as a Principal Supervisor. He is (was) the editor and guest editor of many international journals including the section editor of the 'Journal of Business Ethics' and has delivered training and speeches (including keynote speeches) as an invited guest at many international conferences in Australia, Malaysia and the United States of America.
