Fabiane has extensive experience in the higher education and adult education sectors with a special interest in working with CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) students in creating supportive learning environments that foster not only successful transitions into higher education but also equitable participation and social inclusion in the classroom. In her previous position at UQ (The University of Queensland), she taught educational studies, applied linguistics and gender studies in both post-graduate and undergraduate programs. Fabiane’s research work is interdisciplinary with an emphasis on the application of feminist and decolonial theories and methodologies to various topics in education. She attained her PhD from UQ with a research project focusing on the educational experiences of refugee-background students in relation to concepts of academic success in Australia. In her current research, Fabiane is investigating how concepts of wonder and engaged pedagogy might translate into inclusive pedagogical approaches in higher education. As part of this work Fabiane has recently been awarded an international visiting scholar grant to collaborate with academics at UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina), Brazil in a project titled A repository of intercultural education practices.
