Dr. Xujuan Zhou is Professor in School of Business. She is also the Advance Queensland Industry and Research Fellow. She received her PhD from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. She had worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at QUT, UNSW and Marquise University before she joined UniSQ in June 2016 as a lecturer. Prof. Zhou has led the new development and delivery of key Information System (IS) courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for on campus and online students since 2016. She designed and developed a new course for a Master degree program. She consistently receives positive feedback and high ratings for her courses in MyOpinion, which is evidenced by the teaching awards from her school and Dean’s commendation for teaching excellence 2019. She has also received My Star award recognized by her teaching team member in 2019. Prof. Zhou’s research experts are in the fields of AI, Machine learning and Deep learning, Health informatics, Information retrieval/filtering, Recommender systems, Sentiment analysis, Natural language processing. She has an excellent international research profile and competitive track record in her research fields. She has completed the Commonwealth Innovation Connections Grant research project titled “Prediction of Cancer Recurrence Using Innovative Machine Learning Approaches” with support from the industry partner Cogninet Australia Pty Ltd and DIIS - Innovation Connections Grant ($100K from government and industry partner), January 2017 - April 2019. In 2021, she won UniSQ Research Capacity Building Grant ($15,000) for the project entitled “Development of automated cancer detection system using enhanced deep learning techniques”. She was awarded Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowships (AQIRF) for the project titled “Early detection of chronic health conditions using AI prediction model” ($360K from Queensland Government and $120K from industry partners over three years from 2022 – 2024). Based on her research student management and training performance, she received the 2020 BELA Excellence Award for Postgraduate Research Supervision. In 2021, her contribution to UniSQ’s research culture was recognised with the award of the 2021 BELA Excellence Award for Research and the award of the 2023 Research Excellence Award for Women in STEMM. In 2023, she was awarded 2023 Senior Women’s Academic Development Program (Leadership). Professor Zhou's leadership and accomplishments in research have established a noteworthy reputation in both national and international communities. Her contributions include serving as an associate editor, editorial board member, and Lead Guest Editor for a special issue of a Q1 journal.
