Professor Ravinesh Deo leads UniSQ's Advanced Data Analytics Research Lab in Faculty of Health Engineering and Sciences at University of Southern Queensland Australia. He is a 2021 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (1 in 2,828 researchers for cross-field performance) with publications ranking in top 1% by citations for field and publication year in Web of Science citation index and is among scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant broad influence, reflected in publication of multiple papers frequently cited by their peers produced each year by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)™ at Clarivate. Prof Deo is a leading artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) researcher with cross-disciplinary expertise in Knowledge & Data Engineering, Deep Learning, AI & ML theoretical developments and applications. With PhD in Signal Processing, BSc in Physics & Mathematics awarded with a Gold Medal, Prof Deo’s research in explainable and interpretable AI has a focus on electrical power systems, renewable energy, radio communications research, environment, and engineering domains. He received an Excellence in Research, Ronel Erwee Memorial Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Supervision, Faculty Research Excellence, University & School Publication Awards, HES Faculty Teaching Excellence Commendation and Elsevier’s Highly Cited Paper Awards Prof Deo was educated in Fiji (at Labasa College one of the highest achieving schools in Fiji) and graduated as a Senior Secondary School National Dux. He received PhD from Adelaide University, Master of Science from University of Canterbury and Bachelor of Science from University of the South Pacific. He is a Program Director and Senior IEEE Member. Prof Deo is an Associate Editor of Energies, IEEE Access, Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, Remote Sensing and ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering journals. Providing academic mentorship, Prof Deo is strongly connected with Australian industries including CS Energy, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Queensland Govt, Defence Department, CSIRO and Senetas. Prof Deo received competitive fellowships including Advance Queensland Smithsonian, Young Scientist Exchange, Japan Society for Promotion of Sciences (JSPS), Australia-India Strategic Fellowship and Australia Endeavour Fellowship taking up overseas Visiting Researcher roles. Prof Deo reviews ARC, NISRG and other competitive funding, has been an invited expert on Editorial Boards for Elsevier, Springer and IGI, and has been an international examiner for more than 20 doctoral & masters degree theses. Prof Deo supervises more than 20 HDR students and has graduated 30 PhD and Master students (15 PhDs), many of whom received Distinctions, Excellence in Doctoral and Excellence in Masters Research. More than 10 of his PhD and Masters students received Australian Government DFAT funding. Prof Deo has secured more than A$13.1 Million collaborative funding from sources such as Queensland Government, ARC (DP & LP), Office of National Intelligence, CRC and other Federal Departments including the Defence Science and Technology Group, Australian Bureau of Statistics which supported 5 PhD industry internships. He has achieved over 270 publications co-authored with 395+ scientists nationally and internationally. His publications are cited over 10,200 times, h index 57 and SciVal Field-Weighted Citation Index 3.0 placing him among top cited researchers globally.
