Associate Professor Ravinesh Deo, originally from Fiji where he was a Senior School Dux, is a Mathematics Educator at USQ, Senior IEEE Member/researcher in artificial intelligence (AI). With PhD in signal processing, MSc in physics and BSc in physics & Mathematics awarded with university gold medal, his research tackles highly practical projects, in explainable and interpretable AI. He is the Program Director for Masters, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificates, enjoying Associate Editorship of IEEE Access, Energies, Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, Remote Sensing and Journal of Hydrologic Engineering. A/Prof Deo received Elsevier’s Highly Cited Paper Awards (2019 & 2020), USQ Publication Excellence (2016–2020), Teaching Excellence and HES Faculty Commendation in Research. To build an international researcher profile, he was awarded six fellowships: Advance Queensland, Young Scientist, JSPS, Australia-India and Endeavour, being Senior Researcher at US Smithsonian, McGill University, Tokyo, Kyoto, Kyushu, University of Alcala, University of Singapore and Peking University. A/Prof Deo is a reviewer for ARC and national funding in Netherlands, Serbia, Poland, UK, US and Switzerland. He serves on Editorial Board of Elsevier, Springer and IGI and as examiner for doctoral & masters theses. Currently leading Advanced Data Analytics Group, he supervises over 20 HDR students, many of whom received Excellence in Doctoral Research. A/Prof Deo’s research received more than $1.61M funding from Australian Defence Science and Technology, Bureau of Statistics, Queensland Government, ARC, CRC and others. He published over 215 papers (85% Q1) co-authored with over 290 scientists nationally and internationally. As per Scopus & SciVal, A/Prof Deo’s publications are cited >5,300 times yielding H-Index of 40 and SciVal Field-Weighted Citation Index of 3.1, placing him among top cited researcher.
