Dr Pingan Song is currently an ARC Future Fellow (FT2) and Associate Professor in High-Performance Polymers, specifically in flame retardants for high-performance polymers, and bio-inspired advanced polymer composites. Before he joined University of Southern Queensland in 2016, Dr Song has been working at Zhejiang A & F University, China as full professor. He received his PhD from the Zhejiang University in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Zhengping Fang. His research focuses on the design, synthesis and mechanism of next-generation eco-friendly flame retardants, and polymer blends and modification, specifically reinforcement, toughening and flame retardancy. He has successfully secured more than 30 grants from both the government and industries as a lead Chief Investigator or Chief Investigator with a total research funding of over AU$3.5 million in the last 10 years. Dr Song has co-authored over 120 peer-reviewed journal publications in top journals such as Progress in Materials Science, Advanced Materials, ACS Nano, Journal Materials Chemistry (A), ACS Macro Letters, Macromolecules, Polymer, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Carbon, Chemical Engineering Journal, and ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering. His publications have been cited around 4600 times with an H index of 41 (Google Scholar). To date, he has also filed over 18 patents, and delivered over 20 keynotes and invited talks. In addition, he is currently serving as Associate Editor of Frontiers in Materials (2019 IF: 2.705) and Editorial Board Member of Composites Part B: Engineering (2019 IF: 7.635).
