Jan commenced nursing in 1982 and has worked in three Australian states. She has twenty years of Intensive Care nursing with a Postgraduate Critical Care Certificate. In 1996-7 she was the nurse representative for the Queensland Health (QH) Statewide review of Intensive Care Units, which lead to a QH education sub-committee that developed and introduced the Transition to Critical Care Program for the state of Queensland. Clinically Jan has also worked in medical and surgical wards, GP clinics, and private well baby clinics. In 2007-8 Jan was the project officer for a large QH longitudinal cohort study exploring exclusive breastfeeding rates in Logan, Ipswich and Redlands. This was also related to her work as a volunteer breastfeeding counsellor for twelve years. In 2009 Jan commenced teaching into the undergraduate nursing courses at the University of Queensland and remained for seven years. Jan joined USQ SONM in 2016 teaching into the Bachelor of Nursing program. Jan is also a current USQ student studying MSCR.
