Retired IT professional and amateur astronomer for 50 years. Casual technical officer for the Centre for Astrophysics since 2022. In that role Des supports Astrophysics with school and community astronomy outreach and citizen science projects. In 2021 and 2022 Des was President of the Astronomical Association of Queensland (AAQ) which assists amateur astronomy research through the Edward Corbould Research Fund. For example, an active research project in the Association is multi-year research to monitor and model selected chromospherically active, close eclipsing binaries.
